Eager for Easter
You keep it hidden
in a paper bag.
Beribboned beauty.
The perfect egg.
Glimpse of foil —
hints of gold or emerald.
Joy and sunshine
shimmering on its shell.
Let me weigh
its secrets in my hand,
shake the cocoa embryo
that wakes within!
Two flawless halves
will open like a mussel,
split like a lily bud
flowering in my palms.
I dream a waft
of milk and vanilla pod,
sugar cane and cocoa bean
perfuming my skin.
See glittering within,
a razzle-dazzle treasure trove,
and folded in the foil,
the creases of your smile.
